CHAPTER ONE

Introduction

1.1 Background to the Study:

Today, Christianity is one of the major religions in Nigeria with a significant strength. This significant is numerical strength is attributed to the efficiency and effectiveness of good leadership style.

This numerical strength is positive for profound social, economic, political and religious influence both inside and outside of the country.

Ngozi Iheanacho opined that the emergence of churches and other Christian movements in Nigeria in resent time is unprecedented, as at present. Nigeria is being shortlisted as the country with the highest number of churches in Africa”

New churches emerge on daily bases through good leadership style t o this end, every reasonable Christian and indeed every Pastor should possess a good leadership style in other to establish the cardinal objective of mission and evangelism.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

A major problem in the church which if not quickly addressed will plunge it into crisi is the leadership. The researcher noticed that:.

The focus has been shifted from developing a good leadership style which determines how much growth any church will have.
How leadership style can be effective handled for a vibrant church
What has gone wrong in the church leadership circle to have warrant the disunity I the xhurch

1.3 Purpose of the Study

The general purpose of this research work is to look into the impact or leadership style on the church growth. The following areas will also be look into;

To examine the demographic characteristics or the leaders in the case study
To examine the different leadership styles used.
To examine the role of leaders in developing the church growth
To examine how leadership style can work for church growth
To proffer possible style on the church growth

1.4 Significance of the Study

The study will enable ministers to consider relevant factors to leadership style in the church growth.
The study will guide to prevent falls that are directly presented on the way of leadership style for the growth of the church
The study will enable other ministries to know other area of leadership style

1.5 Delimitation of the Study

This study will be limited to the basic understanding from the statement of the problems. The churches to be understudy and the finding on leadership style to the growth of the churches in question.

1.6 Research Procedure

This study made use of historical and survey analysis. Collection of data will be through questionnaires and one on one schedule interview. It will be divided into two sectors: the clergy/leaders and the church members. This will be done with a random sampling of members in the study area. The library will also be used to review the current global situation and methods of dealing with the church growth. The use of textbooks, journals, Christians bulleting of past studies also be consulted. The bible and internet will also be consulted to see relevant opinion.

Data analysis will be carried out by the use of different models such as tables and percentage distribution.

1.7 Limitation of the Study

As at the time of this research, situation in the country is down casting thus transportation from place to place becomes more expensive for the purpose of this work. Other challenges encountered are some of the questionnaires sent out were not totally returned whole some were not answered well.

1.8 Definition of Terms

Leader:

A leader is “a person who influences a group of people towards the achievement of a goal”.
A leaders is also one who goes first and leads by example, so that others are motivated to follow him.
